Good afternoon to all!
Welcome to a special Minnesota Fishing Opener 2009 edition of the Wigwam Fisherman Blog. Well we didn’t have ideal conditions this morning, it was cold and we encountered a few snow flakes, but the fishing was by far the best I have ever seen during an opener in my life. In a matter of one hour just in front of the Wigwam Resort, in Four Mile Bay and the Gap, myself and three other anglers were limited out in Walleye’s. If your fishing another lake right now and not having the luck you wanted, pull anchor and get up to the Wigwam and Lake of the Woods. You will be kicking yourself later if you don’t.
The Daily Fishing Report: There is only one word that can describe the fishing on Lake of the Woods this year, and that is, UNBELIEVABLE! If the opener is any indication to what we can expect for the year, you will be doing yourself and your family a disservice if you don’t make it up here to participate in all the excitement. There are probably 200 boats out in Four Mile Bay as I’m writing this and they are all catching fish. People are limiting out in an hour or less, and they are also catching some nice monster Walleye along the way. I heard a group say that in less than 30 min, they had 6 keepers and had to throw back 15 that where 25” – 27”…again, UNBELIEVABLE! The largest Walleye that I have heard of today was 32”…I didn’t get to get peak at her, but I guess she was nice and fat. The gentleman that brought her into his boat was nice enough to through her back to let someone else experience the fight some other day. You want to be fishing in about 15 – 18 feet of water today. You want to use 3/8 oz & ½ oz, Chartreuse, Pink & Orange/Gold jigs. You want to be using frozen shiners as bait. I think if you heed the information given, then you too, will experience an UNBELIEVABLE fishing day out on Lake of the Woods throughout the weekend. FYI – in less than one hour we caught over 25 Walleye (keepers), by using the lures and bait that I just informed you about.
On the way back from our short fishing trip this morning, Tom Briggs and I discussed a May Special on lodging. People must experience what the lake has to offer and we want to help your next fishing trip become reality. We plan to offer exclusively during the weekdays (Sunday – Thursday) in May 2009 the following:
For new bookings only, we are offering $30.00/per person lodging at the Wigwam Resort for weekdays (Sunday – Thursday) through the rest of May 2009…that is a savings of 33%. We want everyone to be able to experience what we just did this morning. Once again it was UNBELIEVABLE!
On a entertainment note; one of the areas best bands, Poor Boys, out of Fort Francis, Ont. Canada, will be playing exclusively at the Wigwam Resort for the next few weekends (May 8th & 9th, May 15th & 16th, May 22nd & 23rd). Don’t miss out on this band…THEY ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My shout out today will go to the band members of Poor Boys. They played an awesome set last night and I would like to thank them for keeping the guests constantly entertained. I hope I get a chance to take them fishing some day…they are all good guys.
Happy fishing to all, and to all a good day!
