Fall is in the Air on Lake of the Woods

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. GREAT BREAKING NEWS…THE SHINERS HAVE STARTED THEIR RUN INTO FOUR MILE BAY AND THE RAINY RIVER!!!! What this means for all of us is, unbelievable fishing in Four Mile Bay (right in front of the Wigwam Resort) and the Rainy River. The reservations have been pouring in for the next 2 months and we are already starting to fill up. For example for the next 3 weekends we only have 3 cabins and 8 lodge rooms available (that is total)…book now or forever hold your peace. I will try to fish Four Mile Bay everyday this upcoming week and keep everyone informed as to how the fish are biting and what they are biting on. I know that the Walleyes have already started to move there way into Lighthouse Gap and Four Mile Bay, but as of right now, no monsters, just good eaters. The method of fishing has reverted back to anchoring and jigging with frozen Shiners.
Well this week I’ve been land locked and unable to hit the lake, hence the lack of pictures. Tom is using my boat to guide in a celebrity fishing event down near Park Rapids, MN this week. He should be back tonight sometime…I can’t wait to get out there and do some fishing!!!! I feel like I’m back playing hockey again and I’m just getting ready before game time and I don’t have my skates…what a terrible feeling…only one more day though until he’s back…I will manage, but I don’t like it…haha.

Just a couple announcements…September 18th & 19th will be the MTT (Minnesota Tournament Trail) Fishing Championship, which will be held on Lake of the Woods, and a large majority of the participants will be staying with us at the Wigwam Resort…Poor Boys band will be playing both Friday and Saturday night for the entertainment. October 2nd & 3rd will be the Fall North Star Walleye Classic Fishing Tournament…Poor Boys will again be blessing us with their presence on those respected Friday and Saturday nights. Finally, for every Vikings game this season we will have a “Kill the Keg” special, and specials on our bar dining menu. This will make for some pretty crazy Sunday afternoon/nights and Monday nights…LETS GO VIKINGS!!!!

I will bring this up every day until we are there, but just a reminder to all of you that want to stay with us this winter during ice fishing season…we are starting to fill up. If you want your places reserved at the Wigwam Resort, book now, or forever hold your peace. We are looking forward to a record breaking ice fishing season, for the amount of fish that will be caught on Lake of the Woods, don’t miss out on all the fun. Remember, every night during the winter is like a Saturday night. Be apart of all the excitement, only at the World Famous Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods!

Once again, before I go into the fishing report, I just wanted to take a second and go over all the different species of fish that we have caught this year in Lake of the Woods. I know that we are known to be the Walleye Capitol of the World, here in Baudette, MN on Lake of the Woods, but we have many different species of fish that are being caught out of Lake of the Woods that should get there day in the lime light. We have caught Monster Lake Trout, Musky, Northern Pike, Perch, Sauger, Small Mouth Bass, Sturgeon and Walleye this summer. So if you’re looking to be put on some different species of fish this summer other than Walleye, don’t hesitate to give us a call at the World Famous Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods and let us, PUT YOU ON THE FISH!!!!

Daily Fishing Report: Today will be very sunny, high 79F with winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Tonight will be mainly clear, low 53F with winds light and variable. Tomorrow we will have sunny skies, high 79F with winds light and variable. Tomorrow night will be clear, low 54F with winds light and variable. Again, what this all means is that the weather is going to be AWESOME so you better get your butts to Lake of the Woods for what could be our last few weeks of summer weather. Today’s fishing report will be exactly the same as yesterdays report, and will come from our guides (Tom Briggs, Billy “The Sniper” Kloos and Kevin Olmstead), our guests and me. Tom, Billy, Kevin have been heading up north to the southwest side of Little Oak Island and they were limiting out by 11 am each morning…that was for 3 days in a row. They were using hammered gold spinners, salmon/gold spinners and orange spinners with crawlers. Knights and Bridges are starting to produce some nice fish also…last week we had some guests that were filming a TV show (James Holst with IDOfishing.com) and they headed up there and fished the rocks…slow troll/drift…orange spinners and hammered gold spinners with crawlers…they had some great success. They caught a number of nice fish…the biggest was 25 inches. As I always say about the rocks…get ready to donate some tackle, because you will get caught up at least a few times fishing those areas. Last week I was informed by Jake Magness and Doug “The Surgeon” Hagen that the fish were biting out in Light House Gap again. They were anchored and jigging with green and silver jigs and frozen shiners as bait. They said that they had gone through their one bag of Shiners in about 30 minutes…the bite was that good! There have been more boats fishing right out in front of the Wigwam Resort also…what this means is that the Shiners have started their annual run into the Rainy River…we all know what that means…BIG WALLEYES ARE ON THE WAY! The Shiner run will last till the middle of November, so if you don’t want to travel far and you want to catch some big fish, book today at the Wigwam Resort and experience some of the “BEST FISHING IN THE WORLD”! All this great fishing will take place right in front of the World Famous Wigwam Resort, in Four Mile Bay and at the mouth of the Rainy River! Don’t miss out on this great fishing that we’re having on Lake of the Woods…come visit us today at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods!

My shout out today will go to all the guests that stayed with us throughout the summer. I just wanted to personally send you all a great big Wigwam “THANK YOU” for all the great press we’ve been getting out in the “real world”. I have always said, the best marketing is word of mouth marketing, and we at the Wigwam Resort are starting to reap the rewards of our great customer service and all of your great words. What this means is northern Minnesota hospitality does go a LONG WAY! Thank you all again from me, Tom and the entire staff here at the World Famous Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods…THE BEST FRESHWATER FISHERY IN THE WORLD!!!!

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!
