Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. This past weekend I had the privilege of fishing in the MTT Fishing Tournament on Lake of the Woods, and even though my team consisting of myself and Tom Briggs didn’t win, we sure had some fun. Tom and I ended up with a measly 5.26 lbs, but it wasn’t because weren’t catching fish. We must have caught 25 to 30 fish, but some were too big and some were too small. I feel like the nursery rime story about
the bears and the porridge right now. We just didn’t catch enough fish that were just right, but so it goes…there is always a next time. We were in the right spot, not even 50 yards away from us is where the 1st and 2nd place teams were fishing…they didn’t leave their spot all day. Each team brought in 2 big Monster Walleyes on the final day to take their respective places. Here is the Wigwam Fisherman saying, Congratulations!
The east side of Lake of the Woods is producing some monster fish this year, and that was evident in this weekend MTT Tournament, in Baudette, MN. There were 10 Big Walleyes brought in this year in two days for the tournament. This just means that there is a ton of big fish in Lake of the Woods and I hope each of us will get to experience at least one this year. Keep fishing Lake of the Woods and your “Monster Walleye” or what ever species you’re fishing for, will come!

Daily Fishing Report: Today we will have sunshine and clouds mixed high 74F with winds light and variable. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of thunderstorms overnight, 
low 54F with winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph…there will be a 30% chance of rain. Tomorrow will be windy with showers and thunderstorms likely, high 66F with winds SE at 15 to 25 mph…there will be a 60% chance of rain. Tomorrow night we should have showers and scattered thunderstorms…a few storms may be severe, low around 55F with winds SW at 10 to 20 mph and there will be another 60% chance of rain. Today our fishing report will come from our guides (Tom Briggs and Billy Kloos). Zipple Bay is producing some Monster Walleyes right now…over the weekend I know for a fact that there were at least 6 fish caught there that were over 29 inches. When fishing over there you will want to be about a half mile northwest of the Rock Marker in about 27-29 feet of water, anchor and jigging with Pink/Gold or Pink/White jigs with frozen shiners as bait. Morris Point in front of the 
washout and the west side of Pine Island the fish are still biting like crazy on the hammered gold spinners and crawlers. Tom and Billy have been heading out into the big water in about 32 to 36 feet of water in the mud and anchoring and jigging. Their approximate location is about 5 miles north of Long Point towards Garden Island and approximately 7 miles north of Morris Point. They have been having success using Pink/Gold, Chartreuse/Orange and Chartreuse/Pink Jigs with frozen shiners as bait. This past weekend Tom went to this area and caught 9 Walleyes over 26”…WOW!!!!
