Lake of the Woods is the Worlds Best Freshwater Fishery, “The Proof is in the Lake”

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. I want to start off today by thanking everyone that has given the Wigwam Resort the opportunity to have you as our guests this summer. We are constantly improving the resort from your input to make sure your next visit is even more enjoyable than the last. So, please let us know what we can do “within reason…haha” to improve your visits to the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods .

This weekend I will have the opportunity to take four of my family members fishing, and I’m so pumped and excited. These four have never fished Lake of the Woods before, and I look forward to showing them our breath taking backyard and World Class Walleye Fishing. I have been bragging Lake of the Woods up to all my friends and family so long and now it’s “go time” and I can’t wait! Now all I have to do is put them on the fish…anyone have any ideas??? Haha just kidding…I think I’ve got a few spots we can give a try .

Yesterday I had the opportunity of fishing with a long time Lake of the Woods angler, Mr. John Heckelsmiller of Ceder Rapids, IA. Tuesday’s are typically my day off, so John invited me to go fishing with him on the Canadian side of Lake of the Woods. Needless to say there was no hesitation in my answer and I welcomed it with open arms. John and I fished the entire day pulling Rapalas and casting, we were in search of Musky, Small Mouth Bass and Walleyes, and we found them all! This excursion was strictly catch and release, and as we caught, we couldn’t believe how healthy and plump all the fish looked, especially the Walleyes. The day started off a little slow, but John put us on the fish and a majority of them came from pulling our Rapalas along the shore lines over the rocks in 8 to 15 feet of water. I do want to warn people out there, if you’re not an experienced fisherman this may get a little frustrating because of snags, but just like practice, the more you do it, the better you will become, and I’m sure you’ll learn to love it just as much as I have! As I was bouncing off the rocks and my lure hooked into a fish, it was as if I was a little kid again fishing for the first time…it was so awesome! The Canadian side of Lake of the Woods reminded me so much of my up bringing on Rainy Lake, it was as if I was thrown back in time. The endless islands and wildlife kept me constantly energized throughout the day. The excitement of hooking into my first Musky and seeing it was so exhilarating, I now know why people get hooked on Musky for life! I am now and forevermore a Musky fisherman! I just wanted to give John a shout out and a HUGE “Thank You”…I can’t wait till next time!

The fishing this summer on fabulous Lake of the Woods has been, pardon the pun, OFF THE HOOK, and Walleye head shakers seem to have no end in site. This weekend I had the pleasure of fishing with a few different guests; most of them were first timers to Lake of the Woods and the Wigwam Resort. Before the end of their trips, they were already planning their next excursion to Lake of the Woods and putting together the invite list. My question to you is; who are you going to invite for your next trip to Lake of the Woods? I look forward to seeing each of you again and your new guests ;).

This past Saturday the Wigwam Resort hosted the Summer North Star Classic Walleye Tournament on Lake of the Woods, and Todd Hagen and Jamie Lisell put on another clinic. These Roseau natives have fished the North Star Classics (Spring, Summer and Fall) for a few years now and have placed well each and every time. I wanted to congratulate Todd and Jamie, and thank the rest of the competitors for competing in the fun summer event. If you’re interested in finding out more about the North Star Classics, please checkout our website at www.wigwamresortlow.com, or call me at the office at (800) 448-9260. The Fall Classic is typically the largest of the 3 and will take place this September 18th and 19th, which just happens to be the weekend before the MTT Championship on Lake of the Woods. This should bring in a great field of anglers for an exciting tournament!

As many of you probably know, Lake of the Woods is on fire right now. The Walleye bite has never been better on a consistent basis. Lake of the Woods is spoiling people each and everyday, so if you’re on the fence about taking that trip to God’s Country, tip off that fence and head up north to “The Walleye Capitol of the World”…you won’t be disappointed. The tantalizing effect of setting the hook never gets old, I for one can attest to that. Remember, the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods is Paradise without the Passport…come be our guest.

If you haven’t become a fan of the Wigwam Resort-low on Facebook, what are you waiting for? I’m posting on there daily and have found it a great way to communicate with everyone on a regular basis. I will be posting all of our weekly meal specials and drink specials on there also. Take advantage of Facebook and everything it allows you to do. We look forward to having you as our friends on Facebook. Also, we have just received a new stock of hats (seen pictured here). If you’d like to have the new Wigwam hat, and you don’t think you’ll be able to get back to see us soon, just give us a call and you can purchase the Wigwam hat over the phone (800) 448-9260. We will package and mail your order promptly.

Today’s “Quote of the Day”…”To find what you seek in the road of life, the best proverb of all is that which says: "Leave no stone unturned." - Edward Bulwer Lytton. As I was reading through a number of quotes this morning, this one seemed to exemplify my recent chase for the Mighty Musky of Lake of the Woods. I’ve talked to a number of very experienced Musky fishermen on Lake of the Woods and they have given me an abundance of great information, but each had this to say, “You don’t know where there going to be, so fish everything”. If that isn’t the same as “leave no stone unturned” I don’t know what is. I believe we all could live our lives this way and it might just make for a better way of life…God Bless.

Daily Fishing Report: Today will be mostly sunny, high 72F winds SE at 10 to 20 mph. Tonight will be partly to mostly cloudy, low 61F with winds SE at 10 to 20 mph. Tomorrow we should see partly cloudy skies with gusty winds, is will be warm, high 86F with winds S at 15 to 25 mph. Tomorrow night should be partly cloudy, low 68F with winds S at 15 to 25 mph. Friday there should be a slight chance of a thunderstorm, highs in the mid 80s and lows in the upper 60s. Saturday we should see scattered thunderstorms, highs in the mid 80s and lows in the upper 60s. Sunday should be partly cloudy with a stray thunderstorm, highs in the mid 70s and lows in the upper 50s. Today’s fishing report will be provided by myself, Tom Briggs, Billy “The Sniper” Kloos, and Kevin “Tall Tale“ Olmstead. The fish are still in the same depths just maybe a tad bit west. For example, picture Morris Point and head straight north to 32 – 34 feet and that’s where you’ll find the fish. The boats are out there, so you don’t have to worry about exact areas, just hunker in and fish away. This past weekend I was catching fish each and everyway possible (jigging, drifting or trolling). Once again, I have never caught so many big fish at one time in my life…Lake of the Woods baby, Lake of the Woods. Frozen Shiners, Leaches, and Crawlers can be used with similar results out there right now…it just depends on what method of fishing to the bait being used. If you want to troll, or drift and pull spinners, use hammered gold, which is a Lake of the Woods sure thing. As far as the bait goes while pulling spinners you can use minnows “preferably live”, leaches, or my favorite, crawlers. When we have a good “Walleye Chop” out there, it’s still best to anchor and jig. If you plan on anchoring in the big lake, the best type of anchor to use is a spike anchor with at least 100’ of rope. 3/8 oz Jigs (Pink/Gold, Silver & Chartreuse/Green) with frozen shiners were the golden tickets this weekend and week. We also did some long lining this weekend with awesome success when the wind died down and there was no Walleye Chop. When fishing in deep water (30’ – 34’) I travel about 2.5-2.75 MPH and let out about 125-150 feet of line with TD-11 Rapalas and Reef Runners. Purple and White was the magic color while pulling plugs yesterday in Canada. This is one of my favorite ways to fish for “Big Walleye” on Lake of the Woods. Be sure to be hanging on, because when they hit you better be ready for a good fight. You can purchase your Jigs, Frozen Shiners, and Rapalas from the same place that I get mine, Log Cabin Bait, which is about ¾ of a mile south of the Wigwam on 172. I hope to see you all up here, but if you can’t make it, keep checking out the fishing report…I’ll give you all the hard facts as soon as I find out where they’re hiding next. Good luck and Happy Fishing to all! Thanks for fishing with us and visiting with us at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods.

My shout out today will go to the TriTec of Minnesota, Inc. Group from the Virginia, MN area. They were introduced to the Wigwam Resort by one of the Wigwam’s longtime patrons, Mr. Dan Berg. Thank you Mitch for giving us the opportunity have you as our guests. We look forward to your return in September and getting you hooked on some ice fishing. Thanks again guys, it was a blast and I hope you had as much fun as it looked like you had…take care.

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!

Lake of the Woods was a Magnet for Many Anglers on Fathers Day Weekend, and it Did Not Disappoint Once Again

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. This past Sunday (Fathers Day) I had the opportunity of taking my Mother fishing for the first time since she arrived back from taking care of my Grandparents in Arizona…it was fantastic. Once again, Lake of the Woods mustered up the gumption to show us an awesome experience, and deliver us our limit of Walleye and Sauger. Early on in the afternoon as the shad was delicately being blocked by my canopy, which was the best purchase I have made this yea, my Mother made the comment that we were catching a number of bigger slot fish that had to be thrown back and she was concerned that we wouldn’t be able to keep any fish. I told her that’s not a bad thing to be complaining about, and stay pacient…haha. Needless to say, the “keeper fish” started to come in at great numbers and my Mother was even the recipient of a majority of the fish . The evening concluded as I showed my Mother the garden and deck, she was happy to see me so happy, and isn’t that what it’s all about…love you Mom.

As many of you probably know, Lake of the Woods is on fire right now. The Walleye bite as never been better on a consistent basis. Today’s “Quote of the Day”…”Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway.” – John Wayne. Wow, how true it is, how true it is. Fathers Day’s weekend really got me thinking about my Father and some of the tough position he faced throughout his life, and how he did it with a smile. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure that there were a few tears shed along the way, but we didn’t see them. Towards his last few days, it was so prevalent. I see his smile each and everyday and it gives me strength to also have courage as I face any and all challenges. I hope this will help you find the courage to battle the obstacles you face in your life…God Bless.

Daily Fishing Report: Today we should have sunshine and clouds mixed high 76F with winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph. Tonight night we should have a mostly clear sky, low 53F with winds NW at 10 to 15 mph. Thursday we should have a mix of sun and clouds, highs in the low 70s and lows in the upper 50s. Friday there will be a few thunderstorms possible, highs in the low 70s and lows in the upper 50s. Frozen Shiners and Chubs can be used with similar results out there right now, but I still prefer the frozen Shiners. A “Walleye Chop” helps considerably, but with a light wind, we’ve still been having success. The best method has been anchoring and jigging, so if you plan on anchoring in the big lake, the best type of anchor to use is a spike anchor with at least 100’ of rope. 3/8 oz Jigs (Pink/Gold, Silver & Chartreuse/Green) with frozen shiners were the golden tickets this weekend and week. My shout out today will go to the Garvin Group from south of the border, Minnesota border that is…haha. The friendly fellows from Iowa paid us a visit this weekend to Lake of the Woods to chase the prevalent Walleye. Kevin “Tall Tale” Olmstead put them on the fish from start to finish. Kevin had the crew mesmerized with the fishing, but most importantly the “Tall Tales”. I just wanted to thank you guys for being such great guests this weekend. I hope that the fishing and hospitality will make Lake of the Woods a seasonal vacation destination for you guys. Take care and we hope to see you guys back soon.

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!

Windy or Calm, it doesn’t Matter, The Walleyes Continue to Bite on Lake of the Woods

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. Tuesday I decided to go war with the Mighty Musky of Lake of the Woods, and the Might Musky might have one the battle, I will hope fully win the war and put a fine replica in my office one day. Needless to say I didn’t find what I was looking for, but thank God there’s next Tuesday…. I went up to stay at Tom’s cabin on Monday night and had the opportunity of hanging out with a couple great guys, one of whom was Scott Olmstead of Elk River. We talked about the difference of fishing clear lakes to dark lakes most of the night over “Big Fish Kool-Aids” and some AWESOME homemade salsa. I hadn’t heard much about bobber fishing before, but I’ll tell you what, I’m going to give it try regardless for the “One” Musky I’m searching for. This section will “To Be Continued”…

Well, as many of you probably know, Lake of the Woods is on fire right now. The Walleye bite as never been better on a consistent basis. Lake of the Woods is spoiling people each and everyday, so if you’re on the fence about taking that trip to God’s Country, tip off that fence and head up north to “The Walleye Capitol of the World”…you won’t be disappointed. Today’s “Quote of the Day”…”I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past” – Thomas Jefferson. As I alluded to earlier, I have started to chase the Mighty Musky, and I think this quote from one of our founding fathers exemplifies my current situation. I’m a dreamer and I think this is an excellent way to enjoy your life. Since childhood we all have been dreamers, we all once dreamt of what we would be one day, why have we stopped. Two years ago I thought I was in a job that would consume me for the rest of my life. I’m here to tell you to follow your dreams and be happy. I hope this will jar some memories and put a smile on your face…God Bless.

Daily Fishing Report: Tonight should be windy, with scattered thunderstorms, some strong during the evening, will give way to partly cloudy skies after midnight…damaging winds, large hail, and possibly a tornado with some storms, low 58F with winds S at 20 to 30 mph…there will be a 60% chance of rain. Tomorrow should be windy, with mostly sunny skies early followed by a few showers in the afternoon, high 69F with winds SW at 25 to 35 mph…there will be a 50% chance of rain. Tomorrow night we should have considerable cloudiness with occasional rain showers, low 56F with winds W at 10 to 20 mph…there will be a 50% chance of rain. Saturday we should have rain showers early with some sunshine later in the day, high 73F with winds NW at 10 to 15 mph…there will be a 40% chance of rain. Sunday we should have a few morning showers, highs in the low 70s and lows in the mid 50s. Monday we should have a mix of sun and clouds, highs in the upper 70s and lows in the upper 50s. Today’s fishing report will be provided by myself, Tom Briggs, Billy “The Sniper” Kloos, and Kevin “Tall Tale“ Olmstead and will be no different than the last…the fish are in the same places. 31’- 33’ feet on the US/Canadian border was the place to be…it was on fire! I have never caught so many big fish at one time in my life…Lake of the Woods baby, Lake of the Woods. My shout out today will go to the Walkers, from Eau Clair, WI. The Wigwam Resort had the distinguished opportunity to have as our guest, Duane and Sue, who were both wonderful people and as it turned out fishermen too. We had a great time chatting when they arrived and found out that we had a lot in common. I hope that you guys had a fabulous time visiting us, because we sure had a fabulous time having you. Everyone spoke very highly of you and your skills with the rods and reels. We look forward to having you back as our guest very soon…you’ll have to try ice fishing now.

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!

The Walleyes Just Don’t Stop Biting on Lake of the Woods

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. Well we had another fantastic weekend of fishing on Lake of the Woods at the Wigwam Resort. I can’t recall in the past 18 years of fishing Lake of the Woods the fishing being any better than it currently is. We are very blessed and lucky to have this right now and everyone should be taking full advantage of our resource. Just one example, I talked to a buddy that didn’t want to make the extra two hour drive to get to Lake of the Woods, he called me last night so bummed out that they spent all this money and didn’t catch any fish. I’m not going to put down where they were, but if you are planning on taking a “Fishing Trip”, you probably should go where they’re catching fish, and right now that place is Lake of the Woods!

This weekend I had the pleasure of fishing with a gentleman and his son from the White Bear Lake, MN area, Paul and Nick Edwards. Paul and Nick were so excited to catch some Walleyes they could hardly contain themselves. The first day we went out was on Friday and the wind was kicking up pretty good out there, I just couldn’t get my anchor to hold, so we had to make the trek up north to get out of the wind. It killed me to leave the area that we were at, because people were catching fish one right after the other, but it is what it is, and we had to find some cover. The fishing up north wasn’t even close to what we are experiencing on the south end of the lake. When Friday had concluded, I prayed that the winds would calm down and we would have the opportunity to fish where the Walleyes where at…30’-33’ right on the US/Canadian line. Saturday morning came and God answered our prayers, the wind was light and the Walleyes were thick. For the first half of the day we anchored and jigged, but as soon as the wind quit we started long lining Reef Runners and TD-11 Rapalas. I have never had so much fun in a boat as I did when we were long lining, we had doubles and triples, and it was awesome. The big fish of the day was a 28” Walleye, but we had to throw back about 10 in the slot…that’s what I call a good day of fishing.

If you haven’t become a fan of the Wigwam Resort-low on Facebook, what are you waiting for? I’m posting on there daily and have found it a great way to communicate with everyone on a regular basis. For example, we are coming up on the North Star Summer Walleye Classic Tournament at the Wigwam Resort on June 26, 2010. Today’s “Quote of the Day”…”Work as if you were to live a thousand years, play as if you were to die tomorrow.” Benjamin Franklin. If we all could live our lives this way, what a world it would be. The past few years have been a real eye opening experience for me, and I feel truly blessed to have what I have and be in the community I now call home. I’m sure that plenty of you face the same challenges day in and day out as I, so take this quote to heart. Two years ago when I decided to leave everything I had worked for over the previous 10 years, it was a big decision, and I didn’t know what it would bring. At the time I was living to work and today I work to live. I took the above quote and made it my life and it has paid off a million times over. We all need something to look forward too, whether that thing is on or off the lake. With that mindset it has given me a new prospective on life and what it means to be alive. I hope that this quote will trigger something in you that will help you live a happier and more productive life…God Bless.

Daily Fishing Report: Today we should have sunshine and clouds mixed high near 70F with winds E at 5 to 10 mph. Tonight should be cloudy with occasional showers, low 54F with winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph…there will be a 50% chance of rain. Tomorrow should be overcast with rain showers at times, thunder possible, high 62F with winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph…there will be a 50% chance of rain. Tomorrow night we should have a shower or two possible early with partly cloudy skies later at night, thunder is possible early, low 52F with winds SE at 5 to 10 mph…there will be a 30% chance of rain. Wednesday should be partly cloudy, highs in the mid 70s and lows in the upper 50s. Thursday we should see scattered thunderstorms possible, highs in the upper 70s and lows in the low 60s. Friday should be cloudy with showers and thunderstorms, highs in the upper 60s and lows in the mid 50s. Today’s fishing report will be provided by myself, Tom Briggs, Billy “The Sniper” Kloos, and Kevin “Tall Tale“ Olmstead. This weekend 31’- 33’ feet on the US/Canadian border was the place to be…it was on fire! I have never caught so many big fish at one time in my life…Lake of the Woods baby, Lake of the Woods. 3/8 oz Jigs (Pink/Gold & Chartreuse/Green) with frozen shiners were the golden tickets this weekend and week. We also did some long lining this weekend with awesome success when the wind died down and there was no Walleye Chop. I travel about 2.5-2.75 MPH and let out about 125-150 feet of line with TD-11 Rapalas and Reef Runners. This is one of my favorite ways to fish for “Big Walleye” on Lake of the Woods. Be sure to be hanging on, because when they hit you better be ready for a good fight. You can purchase your Jigs and Frozen Shiners from the same place that I get them from, Log Cabin Bait, which is about ¾ of a mile south of the Wigwam on 172.

My shout out today will go to the Mike Myers Group that just spent the past 5 days with us. Mike is a long time patron, but was generous enough to bring up some new guest with him this go around. There were a few more kids this trip and that was a beautiful site to see…they are our future! Everyone had a fabulous time and they are looking forward to coming back to Lake of the Woods as soon as they can fit it back into their schedules. Thanks for the visit and we look forward to seeing you all back very soon.

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!

Even the Fish Flies Can’t Slow the Walleye Bite on Lake of the Woods

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. Last Friday the Fish Flies started there transformation and began to bombard land, but even with the hatch, the Walleyes are still being caught in great numbers. What that mean to me is, this is going to be a great summer of Walleye fishing on Lake of the Woods…I love it! This past Tuesday Vancouver and I had the day off and went fishing for some big Musky, we trolled and cast for over 6 hours, but they eluded us this time…haha. I guess I’ll just have to wait to go next Tuesday to see if I can find out where they are hiding this year…wish me luck.

I have posted a special discount on lodge rooms for all the participating teams…$20 per person, per night. I will be posting all of our weekly meal specials and drink specials on there also. Take advantage of Facebook and everything it allows you to do. We look forward to having you as our friends on Facebook.

Jody and I have finally got the garden planted, what a task, but I’m sure the rewards will be plentiful. Now all we have to do is finish the deck…haha. We are still lacking the handrails, but Jody’s Dad is going to help us with that one. As soon as it’s complete we can have the “Deck Party” we’ve all been waiting for. I hope it comes sooner than later…haha.

Today’s “Quote of the Day”…”A bone to the dog is not charity. Charity is the bone shared with the dog, when you are just as hungry as the dog.” – Jack London. On Tuesday night my Mother returned from Arizona, where she was taking care of my Grandma and Grandpa Day, and it was the first time I had the chance to see her since last summer…boy it felt good! While we were over at my sister’s house visiting, my brother’s son Hunter was reading a book, and I asked him what it was. He replied to me the name of the book and I asked him if he had ever read the book “The Call of the Wild”, by Jack London, and he said no. This is one of my favorite books of all time and I suggested he read it. I know I’m kind of going off script here, but when I saw this quote it hit me like a ton of bricks, because of my nephew and something else that happened on Tuesday night as Jody and I were coming home from my sister’s. Just as we got back home Jody received a phone call from Nina (Tom’s Wife) about one of our guest, who was about 3 miles south of the resort on 172 when there car caught on fire. They were able to get their children and dogs out of the van, along with about half of their supplies before the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Half of their possessions were destroyed by the fire. Within 20 minutes of this devastation a group of good Samaritans had stopped to help. Tom, Jody and I were able to get them into their cabin, dry their cloths, get dippers for their baby, give them cloths that Jody and I had planned for the Salvation Army, and give them some extra food, which we had so they could try and relax after the whole ordeal. Even today two days after the incident, people in the community are calling up and asking if they need anything else, and they are willing to do without to make sure that this family doesn’t have to go without during their vacation to northern Minnesota. What a community I’m blessed to be apart of! The family and the Wigwam Resort thank you all immensely. This current event puts Jack London’s quote in perfect perspective for me, and it shows the Charity of our great community in Baudette, MN. I hope this will help in your lives; once again, it has my…God Bless.

Daily Fishing Report: Today should be cloudy with occasional showers for the afternoon, high 67F with winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph…there will be a 50% chance of rain. Tonight we should have rain showers in the evening will evolve into a more steady rain overnight, low 53F with winds E at 10 to 20 mph…there will be a 70% chance of rain. Friday we should have showers, highs in the mid 60s and lows in the low 50s. Saturday we should have a few showers, highs in the upper 60s and lows in the low 50s. Sunday we should have plenty of sun, highs in the mid 60s and lows in the low 50s. Today’s fishing report will be provided by myself, Tom Briggs, Billy “The Sniper” Kloos, and Kevin “Tall Tale“ Olmstead. The Fish Flies have started there hatch and are starting to swarm the main land, which isn’t to good for fishing. We anticipate this to last for the next few days until they start dying off. So where I’m going with this is, the bite maybe a little slow this week because of the Fish Flies. This weekend 31’- 32’ feet on the US/Canadian border was the place to be…it was on fire! I have never caught so many big fish at one time in my life…Lake of the Woods baby, Lake of the Woods. You can purchase your Jigs and Frozen Shiners from the same place that I get them from, Log Cabin Bait, which is about ¾ of a mile south of the Wigwam on 172. Day after Day, Lake of the Woods Truly Solidifies the Name “Walleye Capitol of the World”

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. I hope everyone had a fabulous Memorial Day Weekend. For all those lucky people who had the opportunity to fish Lake of the Woods this weekend were not let down. The “Walleye Factory” produced mind blowing quantities of Walleye, along with a hearty side of size. Just in my boat in three days we caught 25 over 20 inches…the largest being 28 ½ inches, which was caught by an excited 10 year old from New Richmond Wisconsin, Jakob Weninger. The crew that day was myself, Jakob, Greg (the Father) and Sister Brittany, Congratulations on the great catch! I think we might just have another future Lake of the Woods regular on our hands after this weekend. If you have the opportunity to fish Lake of the Woods, don’t miss out!

Last Thursday and Friday afternoons I had the distinguished pleasure of fishing with a few gentlemen from the Twin Cities area, brothers Pat and Mike Carr. The first day was pretty awesome from start to finish. We started off about ½ mile west of the US/Canadian border in 31 foot of water. The fishing was fantastic and the action was steady. There wasn’t a break for more than 2 minutes without a bite, which kept us extremely busy throughout the morning. As the afternoon approached we decided to head up to Knights Reefs to give them a shot. For the first 2 hours the fishing was awesome, but the afternoon got very calm, and as if the light switch was shut off the fish stopped biting. There is surly something to be said about a Lake of the Woods “Walleye Chop”. Day two wasn’t so nice…the weather that is. We tried to go out twice and both times the winds switched and storms returned, which didn’t allow us to fish all day. The Carr’s weren’t at all disappointed though, they said that the first day was awesome enough. Well thanks guys…hope to see you back soon.

I stated this in the last blog, but it must be said again. Walleye season is here, and there should be no other place to go than Lake of the Woods and Baudette, MN, which is know by millions as the “Walleye Capitol of the World”! With a bountiful supply of Walleye, Sauger, Perch, Northern Pike, and Small Mouth Bass, Lake of the Woods is like a massive magnet pulling anglers in from thousands of miles around every single day. If you are one of the few that haven’t had the chance to experience our tremendous fishery, please give us a call and we’d love to show you around our backyard. We love to help people experience the feeling of hooking into there own trophy fish on Lake of the Woods. Every time I hear a new fishing tale, it gets me just as excited as the person telling it. I love Lake of the Woods and all of its tremendous beauty, come share that with us this summer!

Today’s “Quote of the Day”…” He who has never learned to obey cannot be a good commander”. – Aristotle. This quote came from a very wise philosopher who shaped cutting edge philosophies, which still hold major relevance today. After spending some of the day on Monday reflecting on Memorial Day and remembering my Father and what he stood for, I couldn’t help but think this sounded just like him. He taught my family this philosophy every day, even if we didn’t adhere to it all the time. From my earliest recollections, I was taught to obey and respect authority, and I’m sure that my Father, without saying it, wanted us to learn to be good commanders for something that may present itself someday down the road. I hope this will help in your lives; once again, it has my…God Bless.

Saturday we should have showers, maybe a rumble of thunder, highs in the low 70s and lows in the low 50s. Sunday we should have showers, maybe a rumble of thunder, highs in the upper 60s and lows in the low 50s. My shout out today will go to will go to Terry and Steve Carlson. Tom and I had the pleasure of fishing with the Carlson’s and it was sure a fun. The father/son duo pulled in a number of beautiful Walleyes, but the biggest came yesterday morning on the 9 footer. Congratulations Steve, we hope this is a trip you’ll be talking about for a while…nice 28 ½ inch Walleye. We look forward to seeing you and your father back soon.

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!
