Just another Amazing Day of Fishing on Lake of the Woods at the World Famous Wigwam Resort

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. Yesterday I didn’t get a chance to go out fishing and it was a real bummer. We are supposed to have some nasty weather for the next 5 days in a row and I doubt that I will get the opportunity to do any fishing during that time. There were a lucky few yesterday that did get a chance to go out on the lake and they got exactly what they were looking for…Walleyes! Tom Briggs, Billy Kloos and Kevin Olmstead, all of the Wigwam Resort, were able to take groups out on Lake of the Woods and they headed up to Garden Island to see if they could, put our guests on the fish, and that’s exactly what they did. This has been a constant for the Wigwam Resort all summer…we put people on the fish, whether you’re fishing with us, or you bring your own boat and asking us where to fish. We give you the information to make sure every time on Lake of the Woods will be your best time on Lake of the Woods. I will always say, I have a lot more fun catching fish instead of chasing them around, and I know that there are probably a number of people out there that are just like me.

This weekend the Wigwam Resort will be having live music, put on by, Tami and the Bachelor. They are a great band that has played in the area for years and you won’t want to miss them this time around. The Wigwam should be a rocking this weekend and I can’t wait to meet as many new people as humanly possible! I look forward to seeing each and every one of you there...so don’t miss it!!!! Tami and the Bachelor will be playing Friday (7/30/09) and Saturday (8/1/09) night from 9 pm till close at the World Famous Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods!

Just a reminder to all of you that want to stay with us this winter during ice fishing season…we are starting to fill up. If you want your places reserved at the Wigwam Resort, book now, or forever hold your peace. We are looking forward to a record breaking ice fishing season, for the amount of fish that will be caught on Lake of the Woods, don’t miss out on all the fun. Every night during the winter is like a Saturday night. Be apart of all the excitement, only at the World Famous Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods!

Once again, before I go into the fishing report, I just wanted to take a second and go over all the different species of fish that we have caught this year in Lake of the Woods. I know that we are known to be the Walleye Capitol of the World, here in Baudette, MN on Lake of the Woods, but we have many different species of fish that are being caught out of Lake of the Woods that should get there day in the lime light. We have caught Monster Lake Trout, Musky, Northern Pike, Perch, Sauger, Small Mouth Bass, Sturgeon and Walleye this summer. So if you’re looking to be put on some different species of fish this summer other than Walleye, don’t hesitate to give us a call at the World Famous Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods and let us, PUT YOU ON THE FISH!!!!

Daily Fishing Report: Today we will see mostly cloudy with showers and a few thunderstorms, high 67F with winds NW at 10 to 15 mph…there will be a 50% chance of rain. Tonight we will see some clouds, low near 50F with winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph. Tomorrow we will see rain showers in the morning with scattered thunderstorms arriving in the afternoon, high 71F with winds SW at 5 to 10 mph…there will be a 50% chance of rain. Tomorrow night we should have variably cloudy with scattered thunderstorms, low 53F with winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph…there will be a 50% chance of rain. Just a little FYI…per weather.com, as of this morning we are in few days of rain and thunderstorms till Wednesday of next week (8/5/09). The wind throughout the next 5 days shouldn’t be that bad, but we will be getting plenty of rain, so bring your rain gear if you plan on fishing. Today’s fishing report will come from our guides (Tom Briggs, Billy Kloos and Kevin Olmstead). Yesterday Tom, Billy and Kevin went to the southwest side of Garden Island and they hammered the fish, once again. They were using hammered gold spinners with crawlers and jigs with frozen shiners (they were hitting on every color). They were catching fish from 18 feet to 10 feet of water while drifting in our 27’ Sportscrafts. They went out with empty coolers, but quickly filled them to the brim with tasty Walleye. They had been fishing for only 4 hours when they had caught their limits and then they were just fishing for a huge trophy Walleye, which Lake of the Woods is known for. This past Sunday we had the fish fly hatch on this side of Lake of the Woods, but I see that today they are dissipating at a nice rate and we should be totally rid of them with in the next few days. If you don’t have the boat to head up north, you will want to keep Morris Point in front of the washout and the west side of Pine Island in your crosshairs. We have had a couple days in a row with a NW wind, which should be stacking the fish up on Pine Island and in the washout. I think that might be a good place to wet the line…if you’re picking up what I’m putting down. Don’t miss out on this great fishing that we’re having on Lake of the Woods…come visit us today at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods!

Today my “shout out” will go out to the Roger Przybylski Group from the Warren, MN and Argyle, MN areas respectively. The Wigwam Resort had the opportunity to have as our guests, 18 members of the Przybylski family and all of us at the Wigwam Resort would like to thank you for making our resort, your family reunion destination this year. The Przybylski Group were supposed to go out fishing with us on Tuesday, but because of the nasty weather and wind we had, it was not possible. After a day of deliberation, the Przybylski Group decided to stay an extra day and go fishing with us at the Wigwam Resort. I think after the amazing day they had yesterday, which included some great weather and unbelievable fishing; they had made the right choice. On behalf of me, Tom and the rest of the Wigwam Resort Staff, we would like to thank you again for choosing the Wigwam Resort as your family reunion destination. We all hope that all your expectations were exceeded during your stay with us, and we look forward to seeing you all again in the very near future…thanks again!

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!

If You Want to Catch Fish, Come to the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. I must start out this addition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog with this statement; if you want to catch fish, get your butt up to Lake of the Woods. I am sick and tired of my friends telling me that they aren’t fishing anymore this summer, because they went fishing on “their” lakes and didn’t catch anything. There is no excuse for this…make the extra 3 hour drive and be all over the fish on Lake of the Woods. It doesn’t matter what you’re looking for, Lake of the Woods has what you want. Whether it is Lake Trout, Musky, Northern Pike, Perch, Sauger, Small Mouth Bass, Sturgeon or Walleye, we have it on Lake of the Woods and if I can’t lead you to them, I will find you someone that can…so no more excuses guys!

For all of you who would like to fish the best freshwater fishery in the whole wide world, get to Lake of the Woods and checkout what we are all raving about. I have had the pleasure this summer of fishing with people form as far away as Dallas, TX. People are coming from miles around to fish with us…so should you! We have some awesome deals right now that will end at the end of the month…don’t miss out on them. To checkout our specials, just go to our website at http://www.wigwamresortlow.com/. I hope to make some more friends before the end of the summer, so I hope to see you all here.

Daily Fishing Report: Today we will see some sun in the morning with increasing clouds during the afternoon, high 68F with winds NW at 5 to 10 mph. Tonight will be mostly cloudy during the evening with a few showers developing late, low 53F with winds NW at 5 to 10 mph…there will be a 30% chance of rain. Tomorrow will be cloudy with occasional showers, high 64F with winds NW at 5 to 10 mph…there will be a 40% chance of rain. Again today’s fishing report will come from me and our guides (Tom Briggs, Billy Kloos and Kevin Olmstead). Yesterday we saw some terrible weather conditions and the high winds have mucked up the water a little bit in the big water, so I suggest heading up north if you get the chance. As I alluded to yesterday, Sunday I had the opportunity of fishing the northwest tip of Little Oak Island and the southwest side of Garden Island and they both didn’t disappoint. When fishing on the northwest tip of Little Oak, we were catching fish in 18 to 22 feet of water and we were using hammered gold spinners with crawlers as bait. When we were fishing the southwest side of Garden we were fishing in 8 to 12 feet of water and also using hammered gold spinners with crawlers as bait. At one point I was holding two fish in both hands trying to get them in the live well while one of my companions was netting another. We had a blast and I would highly recommend those areas, if you can get there. In the same vicinity (southwest side of Garden Island), Billy and Kevin were also having great success, but in 18 feet of water…they were using hammered gold spinners with crawlers also. This past Sunday we had the fish fly hatch on this side of Lake of the Woods and they are all over the place, which isn’t the best thing for fishing, and also the mucked up water conditions on the south side of the lake, because of the storms we had role through aren’t helping matters, but we always have the north end of the lake (Little Oak Island & Garden Island) to keep the great fishing going on Lake of the Woods. Morris Point in front of the washout and the west side of Pine Island might be a place to fish as soon as the wind dies down…I don’t know if it’s still crazy over there or not, but we have been having a good WNW wind, which should be stacking the fish up on Pine Island. As soon as the wind dissipates…I think that might be a good place to wet the line…if you’re picking up what I’m putting down. Don’t miss out on this great fishing that we’re having on Lake of the Woods…come visit us today at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods!

Today my “shout out” will go out to three guests that we had the pleasure of having this past weekend, Mike Miller of Hollandale, MN, Jody Bissell of Austin, MN and Charlie Dresser of Albert Lee, MN. These gentlemen were our guests for 5 days and had to battle a few tough days on the lake, but their perseverance paid off. In a two day period, they were able to catch over 150 fish. That my friends, is a lot of fish…Congratulations! I hope that your expectations were exceeded during your stay with us at the Wigwam Resort and I just wanted to personally thank you guys for choosing us at the World Famous Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods. I can’t wait till you guys return this winter for the best ice fishing on the planet. Take care and see you guys soon!

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!

Lake of the Woods is Truly the Walleye Capitol of the World

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend and got to enjoy the great weather we had this weekend (minus some of the high winds). On Sunday I had the opportunity to take out some great visitors to Lake of the Woods and show them what Lake of the Woods fishing is all about. My visitors were Steve Van Alstine, Irene Shingobe (both of Maplegrove, MN) and Ladon Morsching of Mankato, MN. We had a little rough ride, to and from, Little Oak and Garden in my 19’ Lund, but when we got there the trip was all worth it…we got on the fish and a lot of them. At one point in the day we had four people in the boat and all four people had fish on…it was awesome. The fish that we were catching weren’t monsters, but we were catching fish in the slot. The biggest fish caught was a 22 inch Walleye that put up a great fight for one of my guests, Ladon Morsching of Mankato, MN. We must have caught over 50 fish in a 2 ½ hour period. The fishing on Lake of the Woods doesn’t disappoint.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to go with my Mother, Brother and Nephew to my Uncle Lee and Auntie Janice Tessier’s 50th Wedding Anniversary in Winton, MN (5 miles east of Ely, MN). We were only able to stay 5 hours, but in those 5 hours the stories were flying and I enjoyed hearing every one of them from my relatives. I was able to share a few stories of my own and they all involved fishing from this summer on Lake of the Woods. I can’t wait to take my Uncles (Lee and Eugene) fishing up here on Lake of the Woods in a couple weeks…I’m sure the stories will be flying from the time the boat leaves the dock till the time we return…I love hearing them all! My Uncles come from a big family and grew up on a farm just south of International Falls, MN in the 40’s and 50’s, so you can imagine the stories that I hear.

When I was growing up in International Falls, I remember vividly my father, grandfather and all my uncles sitting around the dinning room table at my Grandma and Grandpa’s house playing their favorite card game (Smear) and telling stories of when they grew up on the farm. I was like a fly on the wall taking it all in with a grin on my face from ear to ear. Every time I’m with them I always ask the same questions and want to re-hear the same stories time after time. I hope they don’t get tired of telling them. If there anything like me, and I think they are, I don’t think they will get tired of telling them, at least I hope…haha.

Once again, before I go into the fishing report, I just wanted to take a second and go over all the different species of fish that we have caught this year in Lake of the Woods. So if you’re looking to be put on some different species of fish this summer other than Walleye, don’t hesitate to give us a call at the World Famous Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods and let us, PUT YOU ON THE FISH!!!!

Daily Fishing Report: Today will be cloudy with a few showers, high 66F with winds NW at 10 to 20 mph…there will be a 30% chance of rain. Tonight we will see a shower or two around the area early, then partly cloudy overnight, low 51F with winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph…there will be a 30% chance of rain. Tomorrow we will have intervals of clouds and sunshine, high around 65F with winds NW at 5 to 10 mph. Tomorrow night we should see partly cloudy skies early followed by mostly cloudy skies and a few showers later at night, low 51F with winds NW at 5 to 10 mph…there will be a 30% chance of rain. Again today’s fishing report will come from me and our guides (Tom Briggs, Billy Kloos and Kevin Olmstead). On Sunday I had the opportunity of fishing the northwest tip of Little Oak Island and the southwest side of Garden Island and they both didn’t disappoint. We are currently facing some high winds the next few days so crossing the lake might be a little tough. So, Morris Point in front of the washout and the west side of Pine Island the fish are still biting…I don’t know if it’s still crazy over there or not, but we have been having a good WNW wind, which should be stacking the fish up on Pine Island. As soon as the wind dissipates…I think that might be a good place to wet the line…if you’re picking up what I’m putting down. Today my “shout out” will go out to Steve Van Alstine, Irene Shingobe and Ladon Morsching. These are some guests that I had the opportunity to take fishing on Sunday and I just wanted to personally thank each of them for letting myself and the Wigwam Resort take them fishing. Steve and Irene are from the Maplegrove, MN area and Ladon is from the Mankato, MN area. Steve and Ladon are working up here for the next few weeks doing some bridge repairs on a bridge on Hwy 11 going towards International Falls. They have been putting in the hours at work and needed a little relaxing break…I hope that I was able to show you guys exactly what you needed. I again want to thank all three of you for going fishing with me and I can’t wait till next time.

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!

Lake of the Woods is the Place For Family Fishing and Bonding

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. Yesterday I had the opportunity to take a Father and Son fishing…it was awesome. This was not a young father and not a young son…this father and son duo was here for a bonding experience of a lifetime…I hope I delivered exactly what they were expecting. I would just like to thank them personally, for giving the Wigwam Resort, and myself, the opportunity to join them on their vacation to “Gods country (Northern Minnesota)”.
By being able to accompany this father and son, it made me miss mine even more. So this is my challenge to all, if you have the opportunity to spend a day on the lake with your father, or your son, just do it (sorry Nike, I’m going to borrow that phrase today)! Cherish those moments, because each and everyday that you’re able to spend with family is very special and it gives each of us a chance to express our thanks and feelings in our own special ways. That is all I would love to do is go fishing with my Dad and I can’t…so if you are able to, don’t let another day pass…you won’t regret it!

Daily Fishing Report: Today we will have scattered showers and thunderstorms. A few storms may be severe, high 76F with winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph…there will be a 49% chance of rain. Tonight we will have scattered thunderstorms. A few storms may be severe; low 57F with South winds shifting to W at 10 to 20 mph…there will be a 50% chance of rain. Tomorrow we should see showers early becoming less numerous later in the day, high 68F with winds NW at 10 to 20 mph...there will be a 40% chance of rain. Tomorrow night should be cloudy with a few showers, low 56F with winds NW at 10 to 20 mph…there will be a 30% chance of rain. Again today’s fishing report will come from me and our guides (Tom Briggs, Billy Kloos and Kevin Olmstead). Yesterday I took the Webers up to Little Oak Island and it is still smoking hot right now…if you can get up there, you will catch fish. We were using hammered gold spinners with crawlers as bait. When fishing up at Little Oak Island, you will want to be on either the east or west side in about 18 to 22 feet of water. Also, when the wind dissipates keep Morris Point in front of the washout and the west side of Pine Island the fish are still biting like crazy on the hammered gold spinners and crawlers. Tom and Billy have been heading out into the big water in about 32 to 36 feet of water in the mud and anchoring and jigging. Their approximate location is about 5 miles north of Long Point towards Garden Island and approximately 7 miles north of Morris Point. They have been having success using Pink/Gold, Chartreuse/Orange and Chartreuse/Pink Jigs with frozen shiners as bait. Don’t miss out on this great fishing that we’re having on Lake of the Woods…come visit us today at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods!

Today my “shout out” will go out to two of the Wigwam Resort Guests, the Webers (Howard and David). As I alluded to in the first paragraph, I was able to take these fine gentlemen fishing yesterday. I hope that all their expectations were exceeded during the fishing trip with myself and also while they both stayed with us at the Wigwam Resort. They are both gourmet chefs (Howard is the Italian chef and David is the French chef) and I had to cook them breakfast, lunch and dinner the past few days. They are still with us, so my cooking can’t be that bad and they even complimented me. I want to personally thank them for the compliments, and also, for giving the Wigwam Resort the opportunity to have them as our guest…thank you guys…I look forward to seeing you next summer!

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!

Lake of the Woods Small Mouth Bass Fishing is...Off the HOOK!!!!

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. Today Tom Briggs and I were able to get away from the resort to try our hand at Lake of the Woods Small Mouth Bass fishing and we weren’t disappointed. We went up about 6 miles north right on the US/Canadian Border for just a couple hours. As we started to pull our spinner baits and crank baits over the rocks the excitement began. As soon as we found the fish it was one right after the other. Tom Briggs can put you on the fish…I am reminded of that every day! As we were pulling in the Small Mouth, we stumbled upon a couple nice Walleyes, which just put a great big cherry on top for the day. I love Lake of the Woods and everything it has to offer. If you haven’t fished our amazing fishery this summer, what are you waiting for? The fishing is off the HOOK!!!!

Daily Fishing Report: Tonight we will have some isolated thunderstorms this evening, then skies turning partly cloudy after midnight, low 53F with winds SW at 5 to 10 mph…there will be a 30% chance of rain. Tomorrow we will have intervals of clouds and sunshine. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible, high around 75F with winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph. Tomorrow night we will see partly cloudy skies with a slight chance of a shower through the evening, low 54F with winds S at 5 to 10 mph. Again today’s fishing report will come from me and our guides (Tom Briggs, Billy Kloos and Kevin Olmstead). Little Oak Island is smoking hot right now…if you can get up there, you will catch fish. I and Jake Magness went there on Sunday and had our limit of 19” Walleyes in less than 30 minutes. We were using hammered gold spinners with crawlers as bait. When fishing up at Little Oak Island, you will want to be on either the east or west side in about 13 to 18 feet of water. Zipple Bay is also producing some Monster Walleyes right now also. Last week, Tom and I went to Zipple in 29 and 23 feet of water, even in the wind and rain, and we were still catching fish. We were having the best success with Lime Green/Chartreuse Jigs with Frozen Shiners as Bait. Because of the wind and rain this great fishing might not continue for the next few days until the water clears up…whenever we get these high winds the fish usually slow with their bite. After the water clears in the next few days we should continue the great bite we’ve been having this summer. This past weekend Tom went to this area and caught 9 Walleyes over 26”…WOW!!!! Don’t miss out on this great fishing that we’re having on Lake of the Woods…come visit us today at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods!

Today my “shout out” will go out to two of the Wigwam Resort Guests that I will have the opportunity to take out guiding tomorrow…the Webers (from Orlando, FL and Atlanta, GA). I am looking forward to taking these gentlemen out tomorrow morning. They are both gourmet chefs (one Italian and one French) and I had to cook them steak last night…it was a great opportunity for me to see how my cooking skills are. Surprisingly they gave the thumbs up, but I think they were just being generous. I hope that during their stay with us they have an absolutely fabulous time and I can’t wait to take them fishing tomorrow. I just wanted to personally thank them for being our guests, and I hope they will be longtime guests of the World Famous Wigwam Resort for years to come.

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!

Lake of the Woods Produces the Big Fish (Walleye, Perch, Northern Pike, Musky, Small Mouth Bass and Sturgeon) and the Best Parties (Wigwam Resort)!

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. I just wanted to start off today by thanking all of our guests from this weekends Beach Bash at the World Famous Wigwam Resort, you are the back bone of our business, and without you, there would be no Beach Bash or for that matter, Wigwam Resort, so here is a hearty thank you from Tom, I and the entire Wigwam Staff! We are already looking forward too, and planning for next years 19th Annual Beach Bash!

Saturday brought us some of the clearest skies we have had in more than a week for our 18th Annual Beach Bash at the Wigwam Resort and we welcomed that with open arms. The days leading to this years Beach Bash were gloomy and wet. As I investigated how the weather would be for the Beach Bash, every source said that Saturday July 18th, 2009 would be clear, sunny and 75 Degrees Fahrenheit, but when I awoke on Saturday that wasn’t the case. As I looked out my bedroom window at overcast skies and 50 degree temps…I don’t want to say I was worried, but I was worried. As the day transgressed the skies lightened and as if it was written in a book, at 3 pm when the Beach Bash officially started, there wasn’t a cloud for as far as the eye could see…yes! For the rest of the day and night, the weather was perfect!

On Saturday we had approximately 800 total guests that were able to witness our Miss Wigwam Competition and the Wet T-shirt Contest. They were also able to sample the best food served on Lake of the Woods and the finest of beverages. There were countless people that came up to me throughout the day that had only the best to say about what the staff was doing and what we had put together…everyone was very pleased…I have passed on your compliments to the staff…thank you.

I would also like to introduce you to the Wigwam Resort’s “2009 Miss Wigwam”…Ruby McCoy from Grand Forks, ND. Ruby was awarded the Miss Wigwam title by being able to filet a walleye, cast a lure into a bucket from over 25 feet away, and answer 5 trivia questions better than any other of the competitors competing for the distinguished honor this year. Ruby, wanted to clean a fish, and when I say clean a fish, I mean clean a fish with soap and water…I’m glad she stepped up and gave it a try. I wanted to personally congratulate Ruby on her Miss Wigwam Title! Ruby, I hope to see you here this winter for our winter festival in honor of Miss Wigwam, aka “you”. Ruby was accompanied by a great crew of girls form Grand Forks, ND. I hope that all your expectations were exceeded while staying with us during the weekend, and I wanted to personally thank you and the rest of your crew for blessing us all with your presence at the Wigwam Resort for our 18th Annual Beach Bash…thanks a million!

Daily Fishing Report: Tonight will be partly to mostly cloudy skies with scattered thunderstorms mainly during the evening, low 57F with winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph…there will be a 40% chance of rain. Tomorrow we will see isolated thunderstorms in the morning, then skies turning partly cloudy late, high 73F with winds W at 10 to 15 mph…there will be a 30% chance of rain. Tomorrow night will be partly cloudy, low 53F with winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. Today’s fishing report will come from me and our guides (Tom Briggs, Billy Kloos and Kevin Olmstead). Little Oak Island is smoking hot right now…if you can get up there, you will catch fish. I and Jake Magness went there yesterday and had our limit of 19” Walleyes in less than 30 minutes. This past weekend Tom went to this area and caught 9 Walleyes over 26”…WOW!!!! Don’t miss out on this great fishing that we’re having on Lake of the Woods…come visit us today at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods!

Today my “shout out” will go out to the Miss Wigwam Crew from Grand Forks, ND. I just wanted to thank you gals again for making the Wigwam Resort your destination this past weekend…the Beach Bash will never be the same without you…so you gals better make it back here. We are all looking forward to your return to the Wigwam Resort and hope fully this time we can take you gals fishing. Take care and thank you again!

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!

Before I go into the fishing report, I just wanted to take a second and go over all the different species of fish that we have caught this year in Lake of the Woods.

Daily Fishing Report: Today will be cloudy with a few showers, high 64F with winds NNW at 10 to 20 mph…there will be a 30% chance of rain. Tonight we will have some clouds this evening that will give way to mainly clear skies overnight, low 49F with winds N at 5 to 10 mph. Tomorrow we will see sunny skies, high 74F with winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph…finally!!!! Tomorrow night will be clear skies, low 52F with winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph. Today’s fishing report will be no different than yesterdays, with the exception of the weather report…so here we go. Our fishing report will come from me and our guides (Tom Briggs and Billy Kloos). Zipple Bay is producing some Monster Walleyes right now…over the weekend I know for a fact that there were at least 6 fish caught there that were over 29 inches. Two days ago, Tom and I went to Zipple in 29 and 23 feet of water, even in the wind and rain, and we were still catching fish. Also, when the wind dissipates keep Morris Point in front of the washout and the west side of Pine Island the fish are still biting like crazy on the hammered gold spinners and crawlers. Don’t miss out on this great fishing that we’re having on Lake of the Woods…come visit us today at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods!

Today my “shout out” will go out to all the guests that have stayed with us this summer. I wanted to thank all of you personally, from the bottom of my heart, because of you, I am able to live the life I have always dreamed of, and for that I thank you. So here’s a big “Wigwam Shout Out” to all of you! I hope to see all of you back here very soon and thank you again for being our guests at the World Famous Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods.

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!

High Winds and Rain...Just a Little Bump in the Road for the Quest of Monster Walleye on Lake of the Woods

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. Yesterday I had the opportunity to go fishing with Tom Briggs and the boys from the Shooting Star Casino. We faced some pretty terrible conditions with 35 mph winds and rain, but we still managed to catch fish, well I may have to exclude myself, but everyone else did get into some nice fish. We caught 4 in the slot that had to be returned to Lake of the Woods…the biggest was 24 inches. We all had a great time, despite the weather conditions…Lake of the Woods never disappoints.

Here is a little lesson that I’ve had to learn throughout my short time here at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods. The wind and rain will turn up the water, which in turn, turns it muddy, which in turn slows down the bite…I don’t like it when that happens, but it happens and we all have to deal with it. This summer we have been very lucky…if I can accurately recall, I believe this has only happened twice this summer. I hope that twice is all we get…I miss setting the hook 50 times a day!

Daily Fishing Report: Today will be windy with some rain showers, high 53F with winds WNW at 15 to 25 mph…there will be a 60% chance of rain. Tonight will be considerable cloudiness with occasional rain showers, low 48F with winds NNW at 10 to 20 mph…there will be a 60% chance of rain. Tomorrow will be cloudy with showers; high near 65F with winds N at 10 to 20 mph…there will be a 40% chance of rain. Tomorrow night we should see a chance of a shower or two during the evening, followed by partly cloudy skies late, low 49F with winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph…there will be a 30% chance of rain. Today our fishing report will come from me and our guides (Tom Briggs and Billy Kloos). Zipple Bay is producing some Monster Walleyes right now…over the weekend I know for a fact that there were at least 6 fish caught there that were over 29 inches. Yesterday Tom and I went to Zipple again in 29 and 23 feet of water, even in the wind and rain, and we were still catching fish. Also, when the wind dissipates keep Morris Point in front of the washout and the west side of Pine Island the fish are still biting like crazy on the hammered gold spinners and crawlers. They have been having success using Pink/Gold, Chartreuse/Orange and Chartreuse/Pink Jigs with frozen shiners as bait. This past weekend Tom went to this area and caught 9 Walleyes over 26”…WOW!!!! Don’t miss out on this great fishing that we’re having on Lake of the Woods…come visit us today at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods!

Today my “shout out” will go out to a couple different 1st time guests. First to the boys for the Shooting Star Casino (Jerome, Doug, John and Teddy). I know that we had some bad weather yesterday, but I hope all of you had a great time. I can’t wait to start working together with you guys in the future…I see a bright “Shooting Star” in both of our futures.

Secondly to the Calkins group from the Twin Cities area. This group caught so much fish I think they left us with gills on their backs from eating so much fish. Billy Kloos (your guide) wanted me to thank you guys personally for being such great guests on his boat…he’s looking forward to your return. I hope all you guys, from both groups, had a great time with us and all your expectations were exceeded while you stayed with us at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods. I hope to see you all back very shortly and thank you again for the opportunity to have you all as our guests!

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!

Final Day of The MTT on Lake of the Woods Yields Big Walleyes

Good morning to all!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. This past weekend I had the privilege of fishing in the MTT Fishing Tournament on Lake of the Woods, and even though my team consisting of myself and Tom Briggs didn’t win, we sure had some fun. Tom and I ended up with a measly 5.26 lbs, but it wasn’t because weren’t catching fish. We must have caught 25 to 30 fish, but some were too big and some were too small. I feel like the nursery rime story about the bears and the porridge right now. We just didn’t catch enough fish that were just right, but so it goes…there is always a next time. We were in the right spot, not even 50 yards away from us is where the 1st and 2nd place teams were fishing…they didn’t leave their spot all day. Each team brought in 2 big Monster Walleyes on the final day to take their respective places. Here is the Wigwam Fisherman saying, Congratulations!

The east side of Lake of the Woods is producing some monster fish this year, and that was evident in this weekend MTT Tournament, in Baudette, MN. There were 10 Big Walleyes brought in this year in two days for the tournament. This just means that there is a ton of big fish in Lake of the Woods and I hope each of us will get to experience at least one this year. Keep fishing Lake of the Woods and your “Monster Walleye” or what ever species you’re fishing for, will come!

Daily Fishing Report: Today we will have sunshine and clouds mixed high 74F with winds light and variable. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of thunderstorms overnight, low 54F with winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph…there will be a 30% chance of rain. Tomorrow will be windy with showers and thunderstorms likely, high 66F with winds SE at 15 to 25 mph…there will be a 60% chance of rain. Tomorrow night we should have showers and scattered thunderstorms…a few storms may be severe, low around 55F with winds SW at 10 to 20 mph and there will be another 60% chance of rain. Today our fishing report will come from our guides (Tom Briggs and Billy Kloos). Zipple Bay is producing some Monster Walleyes right now…over the weekend I know for a fact that there were at least 6 fish caught there that were over 29 inches. When fishing over there you will want to be about a half mile northwest of the Rock Marker in about 27-29 feet of water, anchor and jigging with Pink/Gold or Pink/White jigs with frozen shiners as bait. Morris Point in front of the washout and the west side of Pine Island the fish are still biting like crazy on the hammered gold spinners and crawlers. This past weekend Tom went to this area and caught 9 Walleyes over 26”…WOW!!!! Don’t miss out on this great fishing that we’re having on Lake of the Woods…come visit us today at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods!

Today my “shout out” will go to the Powers Group, from great state of Wisconsin, that we had the pleasure of hosting this past weekend. I know that they were able to hook into some Monster Walleyes and I hope the accommodations, hospitality and the fishing was beyond your expectations. I hope to see each and every one of you back here next summer, if not sooner. Thank you again for allowing the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods to be your vacation destination this summer. Take care you guys and see you soon!

Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!
